Project name: Chemistry of Tasmanian inland waters
Year started: 1973
Project number: WRA002
Primary investigator: Rod Buckney
Other investigator(s): Peter Tyler
Enquiries: warra.enquiries@forestrytas.com.au
Organisation(s): University of Tasmania
Project type: Professional
Project status: Completed

Project summary:

As part of an extensive Tasmania-wide survey, Buckney and Tyler analysed the chemistry of water samples from the Warra area, including the Huon River, Blakes Opening (peat pool) and the Weld River. In common with most of the south-western and western inland waters, the two former sites had the ionic proportions of seawater, the supply of ions being mainly from airborne sea spray. The Weld River sample, however, had been influenced by outcropping dolomite, being slightly alkaline and with high concentrations of calcium, magnesium and bicarbonate ions.
